Today, our members in Brisbane were in for a real treat with an entertaining and content-rich presentation from our keynote speaker Scott Hartley, CEO of Sunsuper, on the topic of How to Create a High Performing Culture.
Scott Hartley has been the Chief Executive Officer of Sunsuper since 2014, and under his leadership Sunsuper has become Australia’s fastest growing top 10 superannuation fund with 1.3 million members, 130,000 participating employers and $60 billion in funds under management; and is the first fund to be awarded Fund of the Year, seven times in a row, by Australia’s leading independent rating agencies.
In a very personal account, Scott shared with us stories of the women of influence in his life, most particularly his mother and daughters; how lessons from boarding school helped him navigate a workplace culture in New Guinea where a machete was the tool of choice for resolving differences in opinions; and of what he learned about culture and leadership from a career shift to one of Australia’s most respected and high performing organisations.
“I’ve learned you’ve got to bring people on the journey”
Scott then turned to his experience in leading Sunsuper through a period of unprecedented growth and transformation in the super industry, describing in detail his philosophy of leading with strong organisational culture to deliver high performance.
With a long-term focus on delivering a strengthened approach to both investment and enterprise capability, and sustainable long-term value for members, Scott has worked with his people to develop a set of core organisation values that have become a lived workplace culture at Sunsuper.
