Raelene Castle ONZM joined Rugby Australia as the code’s first female Chief Executive Officer, beginning in the role in January 2018. She was previously the CEO of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, where she spent four years leading the National Rugby League clubafter six years as CEO of Netball New Zealand.
Before beginning her career in sports administration, Raelene was a successful communications and marketing executive in the corporate sector. She is a former head of business marketing at Telecom NZ, communications manager at Bank of New Zealand and a marketing manager for Fuji Xerox.
Raelene has a rich sporting background as a former representative level netball, tennis and lawn bowls player. Her father Bruce Castle is a former New Zealand Rugby Captain, and her mother Marlene a three-time Commonwealth Games lawn bowls medallist.
She has held several governance roles in sport, previously serving as a board director of the ANZ Championship netball, the International Federations of Netball Associations (IFNA) and as chair of the NRL club CEOs leadership group.
Raelene was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in 2015 for services to Business and Sport.
Born in Wagga Wagga NSW, she moved to New Zealand as a young child and returned to Australia following her appointment as Bulldogs CEO in 2013.
Adam Jacobs is the Co-Founder of Australia’s largest fashion ecommerce site, THE ICONIC and the Co-Founder of a new venture centred around the future of work, Hatch.
Interested in how technology is changing our societies, Adam aims to build global tech companies that positively influence our future.
His studies in Philosophy, Marketing and Management shaped the beginning of his career in strategy consulting before founding THE ICONIC in 2011 on the premise of customer experience leadership and the power of great teams.
Adam is a local Sydney-sider whose interests span compulsive travel, poor guitar playing, and general world curiosity.
In 2014 he was awarded the Young Executive of the Year, and runner up for Managing Director of the Year, by CEO Magazine’s annual awards.
In 2018 Hatch was selected as a Top 20 Business of Tomorrow by Westpac.
Maggie Zhou was appointed to the role of Managing Director, Alibaba Group (Australia and New Zealand) in March 2016. As one of the key veterans of the company having joined the company in 2000, she has witnessed major company developments as the company has expanded its businesses outside of China, along with the progression and development of Mainland China’s e-commerce market.
As part of Alibaba’s globalisation strategy, Maggie is responsible for establishing a local presence for the group in Australia and New Zealand to further develop infrastructure and help local merchants enter the vast China consumer market.
Prior to this role Maggie worked closely with the Australia and New Zealand business development team on Tmall Global, a cross- border B2C business platform for Tmall, where she was in charge of overall government and public affairs. She worked closely with the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), to showcase the value of the China e-commerce market to Australian brands and businesses.
In her earlier days with Alibaba, Maggie helped the Group establish Taobao Marketplace in 2003 as one of the nine founders of the C2C platform, and she served as Executive Assistant to Jack Ma, the founder and Executive Chairman of Alibaba, for almost five years.
Maggie is a Victorian Business Ambassador appointed by the State Government of Victoria, sits on the Victorian Premier’s Jobs and Investment Advisory Panel, and is a Trustee of the Adelaide Centre Festival Trust.
Maggie has been a key contributor to Alibaba Group’s strategy to internationalise its business and its mission – to make it easy to do business anywhere.
Adam Spencer was completing a PhD in Pure Mathematics when he happened to win the national Triple J Raw Comedy championship in 1996. From there, a television and radio career beckoned and Adam completed 15 years as one of Australia’s most respected, wittiest and thought provoking breakfast radio commentators across Triple J and later ABC 702. Adam explained his love of prime numbers and the magic of maths to an enraptured TED audience in early 2013 and since being posted online, his talk has had over two million views. Adam is the ambassador for many charities including Redkite and in 2014 was appointed University of Sydney’s Ambassador for Maths and Science.
