University Students and Graduates

In 2013, Women in Banking and Finance partnered with the Australian Financial Markets Association (AFMA) to commission industry-wide research that would facilitate a greater understanding of issues affecting the attraction and retention of women in finance. The research findings are available here:

The key findings from the research resulted in WiBF launching a range of initiatives to connect with universities and business schools, to better address their needs and the challenges that finance and business graduates face.

Next Gen Banking

One of these initiatives was the development of the Next Gen Banking, an information portal for undergraduate students interested in banking and finance, but didn’t know much about the industry. The portal was designed as a one-stop guide for the next generation and the content had been sourced from the most successful finance professionals in the industry.

The Next Gen Banking site covers:

  • Different market and business segments in the industry
  • Social impact of the industry
  • Front-office and back-office role descriptions
  • How to prepare for a career in banking and finance
  • Interviewing tips
  • Tips for your resume
  • Benefits of a career in finance
  • Answers to the top questions asked by high school and university students about banking and finance

Building Strategic Networks

WiBF works closely with our corporate members to build opportunities for undergraduate students to pipeline into the banking and finance sectors. Since 2014, WiBF has annually partnered with the National Australia Bank (NAB) to provide summer internships to talented maths and engineering students to work at NAB for a 6-week period in the dealing room. The WiBF CEO Forum has also been designed to help undergraduate students studying finance or economics to connect and build networks with senior professionals in the industry. While WiBF’s business model does not have a student membership, all students are welcome to attend any of WiBF’s events and courses at non-member prices.
